Bahnhofstraße 25 | Townhouse

The building at Bahnhofstraße 25 was constructed in the 1860s.

It is a strictly historicist residential building with a facade that is comparatively elaborate for its period. Two narrow side risalits, each projecting by one axis, flank a five-axis central section and together form a small, courtyard-like forecourt. This representative forecourt is covered at ground-floor level by an open, veranda-like timber structure.

The building is topped by a pitched roof. The risalits are accentuated by steep gabled fronts, while the central section is emphasised by an attic storey with a volute-shaped gable.

An inscription reading “Kaiserhof” appears on the facade.

The facade design follows the forms of early strict Historicism.

Characteristic features include straight window canopies resting on delicate consoles, as well as narrow rendered surrounds with blind parapet panels framing the windows. The end faces of the risalits are adorned with lion-mask appliqués and articulated quoining.

Further details include decorative sawn timber work on the veranda posts, gallows windows, and wrought-iron balcony railings in front of the upper-floor windows. The risalits are roofed with tiles. The original garden railing has been preserved.
