Bahnhofstraße 8 | Townhouse

History

The house was first documented in archival sources around 1700.

During the 19th century, it was owned by the Fez family, who were master glaziers.

In 1928, the building was remodelled, giving it its present appearance.

Architectural History

In 1928, the building was partly reconstructed using earlier masonry and the existing vaulted cellars.

It was laid out on a hook-shaped ground plan.

The structure is covered by a hipped roof with shed dormers.

Exterior

The simple facade is visually emphasised by a polygonal corner oriel at the junction of Bahnhofstraße and Salzburger Gasse. The oriel is supported by consoles.

The building is crowned by a richly profiled cornice.

The upper floor features rectangular windows set in channelled (grooved) surrounds.

On the ground floor, round-arched windows extend down to the plinth zone.

Beneath the oriel is a rectangular portal flanked by volute pilasters, with a straight lintel above.

The pitched roof is covered with tiles.

Interior

The cellar preserves remains of the earlier structure, including barrel vaults with lunettes, dating from the 16th to the 18th century.
