Bahnhofstraße 7 | Townhouse

Construction History

The building was newly constructed around the middle of the 19th century.

Structural alterations were carried out in 1929.

Architectural Description

Facade

The eye-catching facade is divided into three levels:
– ground floor (shopfront)
– first floor (oriel and four rectangular windows)
– wall dormer (two windows and oculus).

Ground Floor

Shopfront installations were incorporated at ground-floor level in 1965 and 1980.

First Floor

The first floor features a centrally positioned oriel flanked by two rectangular windows.

The oriel is supported by moulded consoles and capped by a steeply pitched canopy clad in golden-coloured fish-scale tiles.

A painted trade emblem is on the two wooden door leaves below the canopy.
It displays (from top to bottom):
–  a crown
–  the letter “W
–  an inscription: “anno 1927, Der Schuhmacher” (Established 1927, the Shoemaker)

The four windows on the first floor are arranged in two pairs.

The paired windows are framed by moulded surrounds, with vertical side mouldings, a projecting window cornice above and a continuous sill cornice below.

Four cartouches are positioned below the windows.

Wall Dormer with Curvilinear Gable
(above the oriel on the first floor)

The central wall dormer rises from the facade wall and is articulated by two window axes. An oculus is placed above the two windows. The dormer is crowned by a gable with a curvilinear edge.

Gabled Roof

The building is crowned by a gabled roof (saddle roof) punctuated by trapezoidal dormers.
