Hauptplatz 5
Architectural History
The building at Hauptplatz 5 on the main square has a medieval core. It was remodelled in the 16th and 18th centuries and received a new facade in the mid-19th century.
Architectural Features
The building is a three-storey structure, topped with a steeply pitched saddle roof with red tiles.
Articulation
The 19th-century facade is clearly articulated and exhibits a strict symmetrical order. Two continuous cornices separate the three storeys, giving the frontage a strong horizontal emphasis.
Four Window Bays
The windows are organised in four vertical bays and are evenly arranged.
Windows on the First Floor
The windows on the first floor are framed with moulded surrounds and topped with straight cornices supported by decorative brackets.
Beneath the first-floor windows, white rectangular panels enliven the facade, each containing diamond-shaped stucco decoration.
Ground Floor
On the ground floor, a round-arched doorway is fitted with a wooden door featuring panelled infills, while modern shopfronts occupy the remainder of the frontage.
Deep Yellow Contrasted with White
The plain plastered facade is rendered in a deep yellow colour. The deep yellow facade wall, combined with crisp white architectural details, gives the building a welcoming yet dignified appearance.
Roof
The building is crowned by a steeply pitched saddle roof with red tiles.
A fire parapet separates the building from Hauptplatz 6.
