Fürstenhofplatz (and the Plague Column)
Location
Fürstenhofplatz is a rectangular space situated to the east of Wiener Straße. The town hall (Fürstenhof) faces the square. The tourist information office of Friesach is located in the town hall. Fürstenhofgasse (a medieval street) emerges from the square and runs towards Bahnhofstraße.

Fürstenhofplatz is lined by the following buildings (listed anticlockwise):
– town hall (Fürstenhofplatz 1)
– fire station (Fürstenhofplatz 2)
– town house (Fürstenhofplatz 3)
– north face of the rectorate.
Plague Column
The plague column was erected on the Fürstenhofplatz in 1732 CE. It stands near Wiener Straße.

Plague Column
The sandstone monument (plague column) on Fürstenhofplatz was erected in 1732 CE to commemorate the end of the plague epidemic of 1715 CE, which killed over 600 people.
Architectural description of the plague column (from bottom to top):
1. A two-tiered pedestal is at the bottom. The pedestal consists of two cuboid blocks.
2. A column with a Corinthian capital is fixed on the pedestal.
3. A statue of Virgin Mary stands on the Corinthian capital.
4. Virgin Mary stands next to a crescent moon and holds a lily.
5. A halo crown with a ring of stars is at the top of the statue.
